Cop claimed aggressive youth who swung at him had reached for his gun, at which point he fired his gun at the youth in self defense. Newly released surveillance footage.. shows cop running up behind the youth, then smashing him in the head with his gun in a surprise attack...

I used to say this, and being a middle-class white girl made me doubt I'd ever have a reason to say otherwise. Then a few years ago I got pulled over and told I had run a red light, which I knew I had not. I was given a ticket, which was over $300, and I knew it was a lie but there was nothing I could do. I felt helpless. That's when I realized that cops are indeed just people in a uniform, given an absurd amount of power over the average citizen with nothing to stop them from abusing it. I'm lucky that all I got was lied to and an expensive ticket.

I was driving down the freeway on Thanksgiving one year, going the speed limit. There was a cop about half a mile in front of me. Suddenly he slammed on his brakes. I changed lanes and passed him, then he pulled me over. He said I was speeding, which I knew I wasn't, and so did my girlfriend in the passenger seat. He said that he has been looking in his rear view mirror, timing me between the shadows of the street lights. That was his visual indication of my speed... He ticketed me and I went to court over it. My girlfriend came with me to corroborate my story. In court I asked him if he was rated for rear view mirror estimation of speed by calculating time between shadows. Apparently since he was rated at visual estimation, he can estimate using any method he chooses. I asked if he really thought he could be accurate with a rear view mirror from half a mile ahead of me. He said that he could, with no evidence to support that mind you. I also asked if I was speeding, and he was half a mile ahead gaining distance, how fast was he going, and what reason did he have for breaking the law? He just laughed at me in court. The judge sided with him and I was found guilty, even though he had zero proof and my girlfriend corroborated me that I was not speeding. Fuck police and their corrupt bullshit! Now I simply run from them if I get the jump on them. My rights are not in their best interest, so fuck them!
