I completely understand your frustration, but you have to understand that you were dealing with a dick cop who was probably extremely annoyed that you even showed up to court.
In most places, if you show up in court, the cops are there on their day off. My little brother is a deputy in a small city, and he thought he had these great benefits and such when he signed up, then spent his first 3 years working 3rd shift days in a row, then 4 days off, two of which were invariably spent at court, waiting for defendants to show/no-show.
He ended up finally taking his first vacation time after 3 full years on the job when he had accrued almost two months of back time and they made him take it all in January.
He has a personal incentive to avoid writing tickets, and honestly, if you aren't going 20+ over, he isn't going to pull you over because the paperwork and inevitable court time are major downsides for him.
He talks all the time about various police officers doing crappy things all over the US, and sometimes even in his department. The "blue wall" thing isn't so much a club that police join as it is a threat.
You know what happens when a candidate tries to run for office but holds views not supported by their party's national agenda? They get no money, no support, primary challengers, etc.
When cops make a stink about other cops behaving badly, they get put on bad shifts,…

Driving that car, I never once got a warning, and never once passed a cop where he did not come after me. So your scenario about good cops letting things slide just does not apply to me. They saw I was in a flashy sports car and knew they could get me for something. This is not one cop, this is dozens and dozens of cops over the years. Actually, I just got my first warning EVER the other day. I was in Colorado at a state park. I was driving 25 around a small lake to get some things to make smores with my family. Apparently the speed limit was 15mph! I did not see it and felt 25 was more than safe. I got pulled over, and this cop was actually nice. He gave me a warning when he saw that I was out of state, and probably figured that would be a dick thing to do for such a minor thing. They do exist, they are just a very very small portion of the force. I have family that are detectives and prosecutors. They tell me a lot of bad things about some of the cops out there. These are not small isolated incidents.
As far as the incident we were speaking about is concerned, if he didn't want to be there, then he should not have lied about me speeding. He most likely got overtime to be at court that day, and given what I saw, probably had multiple cases that very same day. Admittedly I probably could have done a better job defending myself in hindsight. However, I shouldn't have to! I shouldn't have to be an expert on law to be able to stop false accusations from convicting me!
So no, I do not think that the single warning I got justifies the generosity of some police, after the dozens and dozens of false accusations from other cops. And I don't think that your officer letting you off of a valid offense justifies other officers lying to convict me of offenses I did not commit.
