What fucked up shit of a place allows this to be used as evidence?? I can understand some smart cop could use it to detect possible speeding and then use a real method to accurately prove his case, but what dumb arse court system wouldn't throw this shit out on laughable stupidity?

"Your honor, in my trained estimate, the poles are 84m apart. I watched in my rearview and in my trained estimate it took him 5.4 seconds to pass from one to the next. I'm also trained to do math in my head so it's obvious that 1000/84=11.904762, multiply that by 5.4 and he was clearly going 64.285715km/h. IN MY HEAD WHILE DRIVING AND WATCHING MY REARVIEW. "

In my scenario, if he was slightly out on any estimate, it makes a big difference. Can't estimate to the sub second then I was between 5 and 6, that is I was between ~59 and ~71km/h. That's a huge difference simply for misestimating a half second!

How does a judge not throw this shit out and laugh at the cop? How does a jury not find reasonable doubt?

It was a civil violation, so they only have to prove 51% that I was most likely speeding. The officer was rated on visual estimation, and recently renewed his certification. So his testimony was enough for the judge to say that I was speeding. There was no jury, and it's not like a criminal trial where they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Civil is much easier to get a conviction due to that. It's totally BS, but technically within the law. He said that he cross referenced his estimations with his own speedometer. He gave a very convincing show in court. I was young, and extremely flustered that this was happening. I probably could have put up a better defense, but I didn't know I had to. I thought it was ridiculous!

The Chicago City Council just voted 43-2 to decriminalize possession of marijuana.

Replying to slybrows · He should have said that it's already de-criminalized if you're white *in Chicago*. The cops here are pretty. fucking. racist.

All the Chicago cops are pretty? Damn!

Earth’s richest 1,000 individuals now control as much wealth as the poorest 2.5 billion people on the planet. This super elite uses its vast wealth to control the media, influence politicians, and bend laws to their favor.

While I agree, the poverty line here in the US is slightly higher than many countries. I've seen things in Egypt, Mexico, India, Africa etc. that are on a whole other scale.

While I agree medical costs are out of control, I have a hard time believing that your grandfather's 3 weeks stay cost $17 million!

Is it true? Did the baby-boomers take advantage of the social programs their parents created and cemented, then voted to dismantle those same benefits for their children in the name of freedom, individual responsibility, and more benefits for themselves? Can a generation be that selfish?

This is what I was thinking. Perhaps the cycles will shift or change entirely, given our new ability to transfer knowledge faster. Why do the cycles always have to be the same, or happen at all, regardless of innovation
