Aurora shooting victim could face $2 million in medical bills because of lack of health insurance

What they were answering

This.

Hell, my grandfather was in the hospital after a stroke for three weeks before passing and his total bill for everything was ~$17,000,000.

Yep, that's not exorbitant at all.

EDIT: A lot of people choose to call bullshit on this, so I figure I should mention that he did more than just lie in a bed for three weeks. He had severe bleeding and damage in his brain. His lungs were not functioning properly. His body rejected multiple treatments for some other shit he had that I honestly can't be sure of. Every single day he was there, it seemed like he was going into surgery for something or having multiple doctors check him out.

People are telling me I am bullshitting, just trying to get friends, exaggerating.

Firstly, fuck off. I suppose I shouldn't have mentioned it at all but the man was not only my grandfather, he was the only male role model I ever had. Both my father and his father died when I was very young, and I learned everything about being a man from my grandfather on my mother's side. He was there for me countless times as a kid and I was there when we pulled him off the respirator after waiting weeks for any positive change in his condition. Do not tell me that shit didn't happen. Do not tell me I didn't watch my grandmother get countless medical bills and cry constantly about losing the man she was with for 50+ years as well as the idea that she was not sur…

While I agree medical costs are out of control, I have a hard time believing that your grandfather's 3 weeks stay cost $17 million!

The Chicago City Council just voted 43-2 to decriminalize possession of marijuana.

Replying to slybrows · He should have said that it's already de-criminalized if you're white *in Chicago*. The cops here are pretty. fucking. racist.

All the Chicago cops are pretty? Damn!

Earth’s richest 1,000 individuals now control as much wealth as the poorest 2.5 billion people on the planet. This super elite uses its vast wealth to control the media, influence politicians, and bend laws to their favor.

While I agree, the poverty line here in the US is slightly higher than many countries. I've seen things in Egypt, Mexico, India, Africa etc. that are on a whole other scale.

Is it true? Did the baby-boomers take advantage of the social programs their parents created and cemented, then voted to dismantle those same benefits for their children in the name of freedom, individual responsibility, and more benefits for themselves? Can a generation be that selfish?

Replying to torpidnotion · The generational theory doesn't take into consideration the proliferation of technology. It's especially true that in the past 20 years, technology has shortened this cycle. Ther

This is what I was thinking. Perhaps the cycles will shift or change entirely, given our new ability to transfer knowledge faster. Why do the cycles always have to be the same, or happen at all, regardless of innovation
