Stephen Colbert gave a shout-out to Tea Party group FreedomWorks for stepping up its’ efforts against the Affordable Care Act: “Don’t fall for it, young people. You don’t need insurance. You’re gonna be young and healthy forever.”
Replying to Jewnadian · I am doing precisely that, the actual time and material cost that we as a ~350 million strong group of people must devote to our healthcare is relatively stable and completely sust…
Okay, then I see what you are saying. If that is the case, then how is it my shoulder surgery would have cost much less 10 years ago, even when accounting for inflation? If our system of healthcare delivery has no bearing on the cost, why do all statistical trends show it exponen…

Replying to Jewnadian · I think you're missing the point. Just like any product the cost is not the selling price. The selling price of healthcare is currently much further out of line from the cost than …
Are you trying to make the distinction between cost and price? When I say cost, I mean the total currency that must exchange hands to pay for a procedure. The amount of money that is being charged by the healthcare industry for everything from gauze to the anesthesiologist's time…

I think people making the arguments have never worked with outsourced workers, or do not understand the complexity that some people's jobs entail. The guy above saying that anyone's job can be outsourced for cheaper, is a total fool.

No they won't! The cost of paying the fine for not having insurance is much less than current private insurance. Not to mention the out of pocket deductibles are going up every year, so there is no way lower income families can pay the $3K to $5K out of pocket before the insuranc…

It cost my insurance $40K. It only costs me $280 per month, plus $1,500 out of pocket deductible. However, the cost is still too damn high. My anesthesiologist charged $4,000 for that 1.5 hour surgery. Is that reasonable? Even if my insurance talks him down by 50%, that's insane!

It doesn't help with things like that. That's the problem. It does nothing to lower actual healthcare costs. It's merely insurance legislation. And no, those surgeries are not all free in Canada. They all have a cost. I don't care if you are paying taxes or for private insurance,…

Replying to heyitsthatkid · How big are his pockets if he can fit cookies and cocaine in them?
I guess it depends on the cookies...and the cocaine. Are we talking Grandma's? Nabisco? Oreos? A gram? 8 ball? Kilogram? I could maybe see a couple mini Famous Amos cookies and a gram of coke, but not much more than that!

Ok, you're okay with the pocket cookies. That's fine. You must be concerned with the breach in the chain of evidence though, right? You can't just pocket cocaine from a drug bust.

His point was that the government wants to take a large percentage of the potential profits, without any risk in the investment. But that is kind of irrelevant, since a loss is tax deductible on his other income. So the government does take a loss as well.
