Recieved an email today from Nootropics Depot about a product called "EpiCore".
I've never heard of it before but it seems to be an amazing compound. Does anyone have any experience with it before? I'll post the write up below...
EpiCor® is a unique and natural fermentation powder comprised of dozens of compounds and metabolites that work together to help strengthen your immune system by balancing immune response. Please forgive my curtness as (for once) it's not intentional, but what the name of James Brown is it? 9 out of 10 gods know I have nothing but utmost respect for MYASD, BUT, I still had the same reaction as I'm sure many others did after the same “we now carry!” email…what is this proprietary blasphemy? But hey, for MYASD even I am willing to overlook my own prejudices. So I got home tonight and did the cursory Google search about EPICOR and still felt like a politician had tried to sell me a container full of empty promises with nothing tangible to go on...”Oh look! A can full of What The Fuck! Yay!” So after reading this tale of woe are we to understand that this is basically a PREbiotic of epic proportions? And if so, the marketing and advertising team of Embria Health Science should be Made to don yokes and whipped unmercifully for their complete failure. If not, then please 'splain it to us, Lucy. I don't need to know the super secret proprietary process of dehydrating yeast digestion by cat turd bacteria in a repurposed uranium gas centrifuge or anything. I'm just looking to find out what the hell it IS exactly (you know...might actually sell some if we knew).

Yeah, my web guy put all the quotes and wording on the email that was sent out. Normally I would write it, but I have been busy with other things. It does seem a bit overly hyped in the wording. Also, it's not my proprietary extract. Hopefully that was clear. I would never put out a proprietary extract of our own, without a little bit more technical data. Perhaps I should speak to someone at Embria's marketing department, and get them to improve their advertising a bit.
It is essentially a prebiotic supplement that improves the gut microflora. It is produced by a fermentation process using Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast. The exact process I have yet to even figure out, as they do not release it. However, it increases interleuken-10 levels, and improves the function of natural killer T cells. It does this by lowering CD8 suppressor cells, that deactivate T cells, and improves the ratio of CD8 to CD4 helper cells. It actually improves natural killer cell function, while lowering the total NK cell count. The measured improvement in NK cell function was 2-3x. It also increases immunoglobulin A in the various mucosal surfaces around the body, along with increasing the body's antioxidant systems.
So think of it like a compound that improves the immune function of your various mucous membranes around the body, as those are the places when pathogens get into your system. Making it harder for pathogens to get through your membranes, and into your blood stream, makes the other parts of your immune system have to work much less hard.
