Unfortunately, I have some bad news. Jason (/u/Guacamolium), my business partner and co-founder of Ceretropic has died. He was found dead in his apartment on Friday afternoon. He had not come in for a few days, and was not answering his phone. I got a little worried, so /u/Synzael and I decided to go check on him. After he did not answer, we decided to get the police to come down. When they entered his apartment, they found him dead inside.

The toxicology screen will not be back for a few weeks. However, Jason had been having a few problems with Xanax and drinking. He was never one to be careful with his own safety, and would often have horrible insomnia. This led to him turning to Xanax and alcohol to try and get a little bit of sleep some nights. I let him know how irresponsible that was, but he never really got the message. There were a few occasions that I found him passed out after taking too much. I made him get into a substance abuse program, which he had been going to regularly. However, I never felt he was taking it seriously enough. I had hoped that he had things under control, but always feared that something would happen. I just figured it would be him getting in trouble, or driving on it and getting in an accident. I never expected the worst.

I know a lot of you spoke to Jason often about all manner of things. He was a very intelligent person, with a lot of great ideas. This is a big loss for Ceretropic, and the community as a whole. We would always have long sessions, where we would bounce new ideas off each other. Our personalities worked very well together for coming up with new compounds. He would always be sort of out there with optimism, and I would bring a healthy level of pragmatism to the equation; which led to a good creative environment. It's going to be very different without him around.

Anyone out there that has someone they know that is going through a tough time, please take the time to try and help them. People in general, but especially us in the nootropic community, like to see ourselves as invincible. We never consider the possibility that one wrong measurement could be the end of us. I think this should be a wake up call for many of us out there being a little too cavalier with our safety. You never know what moment could be your last. I wish I could have been a better friend to Jason, and possibly helped prevent this from happening. However, I know that hindsight is always 20/20. I hope that this incident can help us all to strive to be more careful with our safety, and reach out to those that we know need a little help. Jason was a very good guy, and he will be missed.

Ceretropic will continue to operate as normally as we can. Please bear with us for any delays in the coming weeks.
