I am not sure if you were around a couple years ago when I was posting about all the immune system issues I was having, so let me give a rundown of it.
About 5 years ago, I was on a business trip to Gurgaon India. I was teaching a telecommunications class for Avaya. It was my first time in India, and did not know what to expect. I had been all over the world, and to Mexico City a bunch of times, so I knew the risks of eating local food and drinking local water sources. I got swine flu before, and had some stomach issues that were pretty minor. However, I did not know how different India was going to be. So I let my students talk me into going out with them for food. They assured me they would only take me to a safe place. Naively I I agreed.
Keep in mind, this was also during the rainy season. The humidity was the worst I had ever seen. To put it in perspective, I put my passport on the table when I got there, and within an hour the corners were curled up like I dropped it in the pool and let it dry out. It was bad! Fast forward 2 days, and things went south. I had taught part of the class already. However, I woke up that morning and knew I could not make it in. I called my contact in class, and told him I would not be able to make it in. I must have sounded bad, because an hour later he was at my hotel room door. The second I opened my door, he took one look at me and said that we needed to get to the hospital immediately.
We got to this crazy Indian hospital. It was filled with sick people. I slumped down on a bench, and my student went to speak to the admissions desk. He basically said that they had a sick American, and I needed immediate attention. They put me ahead of everyone else, and had a doctor come out to look at me. I was only somewhat lucid, but I remember the doctor's words as clear as day. "Your blood pressure is 70 over 40, and your heart is about to stop. That is when I black out. I wake up on a hospital bed in an empty room. I had IVs in my arms, and a bunch of nurses that did not speak English surrounding me. That was a fun awakening! After the got me stabilized, and pumped full of IV antibiotics, I was on my way back to my hotel. Because I never like to quit, I resumed teaching the next day feeling like death. At least I was alive.
When I got back to the states, doctors could not figure out what was wrong. They immediately thought I had tuberculosis, and tried to take my passport from me. Luckily I tested negative, and the guessing game continued. I was sick on and off for 6 months, till it finally subsided. However, from then on out my immune system was not the same. I would get sick 7-8 times a year; not a little sick either. I would be bed ridden sick. This went on for a couple years, with me dealing with it. Then, after I could not take it anymore, I went to see an immunologist.
His immediate reaction to my story did not make me feel much better. He warned me of the possibility that I contracted an immune deficiency disorder from unclean instruments in India. HIV? Fuck that! He wanted me to be prepared for the possibility that the tests might come back that way. That was about as nerve-wracking of a wait as I have ever had, but the tests finally came back normal. So he turned his attention to the microbiome.
He thought that the IV antibiotics they gave me in India had killed off my microbiome. I also had my appendix taken out when I was 10, so I could not reintroduce the good bacteria after they were wiped out. This led to my immune system being severely compromised. So he told me to get on a good probiotic, and see if we could get my microbiome back to normal. I of course did my own in-depth research, and found out about EpiCor. It is a fermented yeast product that creates a positive environment for your probiotics. So I started taking it, and did a probiotic for a few months. This was 2 years ago, and I have only been sick once since. It has completely turned around my system. I take Epicor every day now.
So that is my long anecdote regarding EpiCor. I suggest it to everyone I meet. I eventually figured I would approach the manufacturer, and start carrying it for ourselves. We are the only ones offering it in bulk powder for people now. We are also going to encapsulate it very soon too. I also have an immune boosting stack we are going to offer it in as well.
TL;DR- Almost died in India, ruined my immune system, then had EpiCor bring me back to health. Never did get to see the Taj Mahal.
