Inflamed Liver from Nootropics

Original post in this thread

I'm a 50 year old male, in decent shape, slightly elevated cholesterol but no other major health issues, rarely drink, no recreational drug use. I recently became interested in Nootropics to combat anxiety, stress, and fatigue. Being a Lawyer I need every edge I can get in the day to day. So I read the Nootropic Blogs, watched dozens of videos and read hundreds of pages on this Reddit Feed. Having done the research I started taking the following (all of which I bought at Nootropics Depot). My first week I started taking Lion's Mane then introduced each Noot 1 by 1 every couple of days, then finally taking the following Stack over 3 weeks:

Lions Mane 500 mg - 1x/dayCDP Citicholine 250 mg - 1x/dayL-Theanine 200mg - 1x/dayRhodolea Rosea 500mg - 1x/dayOxiracetam 750mg - 1x/dayNoopept 10mg (caused brain fog after 3 days / discontinued)Fish Oil (daily)L-Tyrosine 500mg (caused brain fog after 2 days / discontinued)

At around the 3 week mark, I developed pain and burning on my lower right side/flank which radiated into my back, and my belly and side became swollen. Found myself urinating every hour. Went to my Doc right away. He did blood work which showed increase liver enzymes. He the…

EDIT: This is very unlikely as ND (where OP obtained all his nootropics) tests each batch and provides full transparency of the results. The same cannot be said for most supplements.

The most plausible explanation is contamination. Have every substance tested for impurities; it is worth the expense and the manufacturers can be held liable if there are any. Not sure where to begin but you will want a lab that has an in-house LC-MS. If they come back clean, this speaks more to the condition of your liver than any underlying toxicity of the substances and you should see a hepatologist immediately. Not withstanding contamination, the only possible culprits are rhodiola rosea, lion's mane or maybe oxiracetam. The cholinergic hypothesis makes zero sense. Hundreds of thousands of people are consuming vastly higher quantities of choline and fish oil from dietary sources alone, and are smokers/nicotine users on top of this which would exponentiate proposed SLUDGE symptoms and liver toxicity and would lead to thousands of documented cases of similar liver toxicities, and this simply is not the case. Blaming it is a red herring that will lead you in the wrong direction. It does not even warrant consideration until everything else has been ruled out. Also cease your regular vitamin supplementation and mineral water consumption as these also may also be contributing to liver damage. Natu…

We have an ISO certified lab in-house, and test for contaminants in every single batch. We have a UPLC-MS, along with tons of other equipment that we use to test every single batch of material that comes into our facility. Then we also test the finished goods to ensure they are in spec, and that they manufacturing process was completely properly to our specifications. There are no contaminants in any of our products. Feel free to send any of them to a lab if you like. Everything will come out fine. We put a lot into ensuring that. This includes ID, assay, heavy metals, microbial analysis, residual solvents, molecular chirality, LOD, and a bunch of other tests. Contaminants are not a plausible explanation.

Exogenous Ketones are a nootropic, even without ketogenic diet

Replying to RandomCat187 · L-Theanine :) You know this, common! This is a nootropics forum haha :) Jk, but yes, L-Theanine is the ultimate nootropic and should be in every stack unless you have bad effects

Replying to otistoole · > Remember that kratom is not a nootropic, and should be suggested with care. No need to remind me, I offered more than one caveat in my post, and wouldn't have even suggested it

My comment was more for everyone else reading. You have to remember that a lot of people come here who are just starting out, and might see kratom being mentioned on a nootropics subreddit, then automatically consider it

what's the safest and most reliable

Safest and most reliable? I'd have to say it would be something like DHA, as boring as that sounds. If you are looking specifically for a racetam, then it's going to differ for everyone. I personally think both oxiraceta

Reishi cramps/diarrhea, any Reishi gurus here?

Replying to Debonaire_Death · I was taking 1g TID, while also taking 1g BID of Black Hoof and 1g piracetam TID. Have you tried any racetams with reishi? It's good stuff, if a bit diuretic : ) Also, on the note

Yeah, Resihi mixed with phenylpiracetam and oxiracetam is a good one. Also, the cordyceps is super potent. The other Paul at our office rarely takes anything we sell, but liked the cordyceps so much that he started takin

Replying to YoYoYL · I'm going to try it out. Thank you! First shipment is on its way. Will add to the next one. Are you still taking Piracetam and Coenzyme B Complex with it? I'm trying to find out w

No piracetam or B complex for me at the moment. As long as you are buying from someone that tests for heavy metals in every batch, I would not worry about it. We test every single batch of every single product for heavy
