I've not taken any nootropics and am looking into ordering some aniracetam although am concerned about long term impact and/or reliability, is aniracetam the best option?

Safest and most reliable? I'd have to say it would be something like DHA, as boring as that sounds. If you are looking specifically for a racetam, then it's going to differ for everyone. I personally think both oxiracetam and pramiracetam are reliable for me. However, other don't respond as well to those. You are going to have some trial and error to find yours.
You might also start off with some adaptogens like bacopa or rhodiola. There are also things like EGCG that go well with DHA.
