I'm assuming by conformation you're/they're referring to cis/trans = Z/E in this case...? If the double bonds were placed anywhere else it would no longer be AA, hence the cis/trans. Huh, interesting.

You know what, I don't think they're BS'ing you! I just started some light research into the matter and some of the literature made me recall an esoteric piece of info that a prof recently explained to me. It's called TransPeriPlanar.
Quick question before I go into the why... Does Solid Phase Synth of Semax involve SN2 reactions specifically? If so, I may know what they're talking about!

Yes, I believe solid phase synthesis of AA-Semax involves SN2 reactions, as they are replacing the N-acetyl group with arachidonic acid.
