Oh, okay. That I didn't know.
I'll be honest, I only have 2 years of chemistry under my belt so far, so I only understand synthesis to that level (plus a little more out of personal interest). So it's not the AA itself that's difficult, it is the incorporation of it into the solid phase synthesis procedure?
Edit: Ha! Just answered my own question. Rather, you already did :)

Yeah, it's getting the arachidonic acid synthesized in large enough amounts, for a cheap enough price, in the form that will work for solid phase peptide synthesis. I have not been able to figure out why the peptide lab synthesized AA worked, but the production synth stuff didn't.
