Can Berberine Cause Hypoglycemia?
Original post in this thread

I usually only take berberine before a carb-containing meal, however, today I took some upon waking and then ate a steak.
The whole morning I felt like I could fall asleep at any second. Brain fog. Weak muscles. Absolutely CRAVING food and sugar. Seemed like hypoglycemia.
Can this happen to someone like me who is NOT diabetic, in shape, eats clean, sleeps well?

Great topic because I wanted to ask you guys at ND about this. I've done alot of research into weight loss maintenance and fitness etc, and there is a huge genetic difference between people who stay lean easily and those who gain weight easily. These are heavily influenced by hormones like leptin, ghrelin, neuropeptide Y etc. For example, these hormones influence if someone overheats how much they fidget and move to burn off calories (NEAT) as well as regulating appetite. I've been trying to lose weight for many years, even overcoming an eating disorder. With your advancements in technology, when will you have supplements that affect the factors I mentioned above? So that I would be able to take supplements which give me the same advantage as those genetically gifted to stay lean. (have to preface that my diet, exercise, sleep etc is all as perfect as can be, but caloric deficits get to you either way when you're not lucky in the genetics department.)
Also out of your current catalogue, what would you recommend? I recently ordered a huge shipment from you guys, am currently on polygala, NMN, coQsol-cf, tongkat Ali, Agmatine, nigella sativa, nac, magnesium. And gotu kola at night. I have your cordyceps too, and just finished a trial of berberine. It's weird that it makes me lose my appetite, but I feel the effects of caloric deficit more. Seems similar to what the OP posted, i…

Genetics plays a huge role. I am one of those that has to watch what I eat closely or I will gain weight. I can put on weight, both fat and muscles, easily. However, it is much harder for me to lose it. Whereas my friend can't build muscle for the life of him, but he can eat whatever he wants and stay super thin. The grass always looks greenest on the other side, but I think I might prefer my body type. It sucks having to watch what I eat so much, but it is nice that I can build muscle when I try.
The single best thing I have ever done for my body type is intermittent fasting. Seriously, it's like I am a whole different person now. My metabolism is absolutely changed from it. I can stay lean without even working out at all now, and keep my muscle mass up. In fact, I actually have more muscle definition/mass now than I did before. It's a pretty significant change for me. I never thought fasting would have such an effect, but I am just better in a fasted state.
As for supplements, berberine, tongkat ali, cordyceps, EGCG, L-carnosine, ALCAR, OptimALA would be what I would suggest. ALA actually targets fat, which most people don't realize. We are about to release hesperidin, too. That helps with weight loss, by modulating AMPK, PPAR, and NF-κB.
