You don't think Accenture has already tried to outsource what I do? Of course they have, and they have failed. They will keep trying as long as they feel there is a monetary benefit. However, the success of that effort will always be in vain unless the mindset of other cultures like China and India change. Accenture is spending billions to outsource to India, with varying levels of success. Some positions can be swapped. Others cannot. To think all can is to misunderstand the level of complexity that some people's jobs entail.
Take psychometricians for example. There is no way that kind of work can be reliably outsourced to anywhere in the world for cheaper than it is in the US. Most people don't even know that position exists, much less know what it entails. Even though it costs upwards of $400 per hour for one in the US, Accenture still cannot figure out a way to do it cheaper in other countries. Try developing a legally defensible certification program for a company like SAP, that is delivered in hundreds of countries around the world, to non-English speakers. Then use psychometric calculations to determine if your exam items differentiate between candidates, or if that item reliably estimates the candidate's skill level in that area. Find me someone that can and will do that at the same level as US based resources, for cheaper.
I do many different things, for many different companies. I constantly shift my efforts where they are in most demand. If demand changes, and they figure out a way to outsource what I am currently doing, I'll have moved long before they do.
