Stephen Colbert gave a shout-out to Tea Party group FreedomWorks for stepping up its’ efforts against the Affordable Care Act: “Don’t fall for it, young people. You don’t need insurance. You’re gonna be young and healthy forever.”

Access is the cost, your shoulder surgery didn't actually cost $40k. Even at $500 and hour for each surgeon and anesthesia guy, $100 for the nurses and some rental fee for a couple hours with the scope you aren't anywhere neat $40k. That's what I'm talking about, the real cost has to be born one way or another. Our current system has a huge parasitic drain that moves money from patients and doctors to investors but it has nothing to do with the cost. The parasitic drain could be attached to any industry, much like it is on 401k fees.

It cost my insurance $40K. It only costs me $280 per month, plus $1,500 out of pocket deductible. However, the cost is still too damn high. My anesthesiologist charged $4,000 for that 1.5 hour surgery. Is that reasonable? Even if my insurance talks him down by 50%, that's insane!
