Stephen Colbert gave a shout-out to Tea Party group FreedomWorks for stepping up its’ efforts against the Affordable Care Act: “Don’t fall for it, young people. You don’t need insurance. You’re gonna be young and healthy forever.”

I think you're missing the point. Just like any product the cost is not the selling price. The selling price of healthcare is currently much further out of line from the cost than seems reasonable. Either way the cost will be roughly the same.

Are you trying to make the distinction between cost and price? When I say cost, I mean the total currency that must exchange hands to pay for a procedure. The amount of money that is being charged by the healthcare industry for everything from gauze to the anesthesiologist's time, is too high. This is reflected in the high insurance costs everyone is paying. So when I am talking about healthcare costs, I am meaning the bill that gets sent to my insurance company for my procedure, because that it what ultimately determines what I pay to my insurance.
