Aurora shooting victim could face $2 million in medical bills because of lack of health insurance

I had an elective surgery that was pre-approved by my insurance, but I had to pay ~$2.5k for half of it. There was a mix-up and the insurance didn't pay up before the hospital sent me a bill for ~$27k.
I of course called my doctor's office in a panic and they just said oh yeah, that's what they charge, insurance has agreed upon rates and pays about 10%. All this is for a two hour procedure with no overnight stay, mind you.

Yeah, I've had my fair share of ridiculous hospital bills too. I just can't fathom what would cost $17million!
