Lion's Mane clinical trials

Hi there. Are there any concrete clinical trials that prove the efficacy of Lion's Mane in improving cognition or memory? Reason I ask is I've been taking 1gram of Host Defense Lion's Mane going on three months to hopefully repair damage done through binge drinking. I've found a few links online but I'm told there is not enough research to support claims that it can enhance memory or increase NGF. Is anyone taking Lion's Mane and what motivated you to invest in this supplement? What convinced you that it works? Thanks.

Well if I remember correctly /u/MisterYouAreSoDumb said Host Defense "was garbage" when it comes to Lion's Mane mushroom quality. Hopefully he will come and chime in but I would recommend getting it from either NootropicsDepot or RealMushrooms in the future.

Host Defense is a mycelium on grain product. Mycelium on grain products are garbage. They are mostly starch. The human clinical trial in Japan on Hericium erinaceus used whole fruiting bodies in the study. So that's the type of product that will give similar results. The mycelium of Lion's Mane does have beneficial compounds in them, though. However, a mycelium on grain product is always going to be shit. Cultured mycelium is the way to go if you want to do the mycelium route. We'll offer a cultured mycelium product sometime soon, and we have a more potent whole fruiting body extract coming out very soon as well. Rule of thumb, if you see the word rice/grain anywhere in the ingredient list, it's a shit product. They hide it by standardizing to polysaccharides, which sounds nice. However, plain starch is a polysaccharide, and rice is full of it. You want something standardized to beta-glucans. Mycelium on grain products are just expensive capsules of ground up rice, with some mycelium mixed in. It would be comical if so many people were not being taken advantage of by them.
