What is phosphatidylserine and why do so many "brain boosting" products contain it?

Phosphatidylserine seems to be a popular ingredient in the emerging Nootropic industry. What is it supposed to do? Is it effective?

Is that confirmed then, that soy-based PS is not effective?
BTW, I'm not sure if you could effectively screen a substance for BSE, as a prion is just a tiny protein. And as such, can be impervious to most things that would render bacteria or viruses inert. It's already 'inert.' There are stories about prions making it through an autoclave.

I'd say pretty much. The data shows that, and my personal trials of of PS show no real noticeable cognitive benefits. It might still be neuro/cellularprotective, though. So it's probably not a total waste.
Yeah, prions are nasty sons of bitches. They can survive pretty much anything.
