Modafinil Dosing

I started on Modafinil on Wed for chronic fatigue / lack of motivation / general sleepiness due to an unknown cause. My doctor didn't know the medication really at all so prescribed 200mg daily. The pharmacist didn't seem to know much about it either. I have taken it for three days and while I am more awake the effects have been very subtle. Certainly no waves of energy, focus or productivity. I noticed on here that some people take 50 mg or 100 mg. I am planning to experiment with dosages a bit but I am interested if any information related to dosages. Is it possible it would be just as effective or more effective at a lower dose? Does that fact I have had minimal response likely mean that is all I will get regardless of dose?

It's only approved in the USA for narcolepsy and (sometimes) sleep apnea. Narcolepsy is pretty rare so it's not surprising most pharmacists don't know much about it. I remember reading about Cephalon representatives got punished because they were gloating about how Provigil is super successful because 99% of prescriptions are for off-label use.

Yeah, but I hold pharmacists to a higher standard. Their whole job is to have at least a basic understanding of all the drugs they provide. When I can go in there and teach the pharmacist about many of the substances, that's not very comforting.

Good to know. I get histamine responses from being out in the cold, or just sitting doing nothing. So me having a histamine response is not indicative of the general population.

Replying to jjhurley · This stuff is dangerous. Many people have gone to doses over 100mg several times a day and had as much trouble kicking it as an opiate habit. Enjoy but be very careful.

Anything is dangerous in too high of amounts. 100mg is not a smart dose, just like a gram of modafinil is not a smart dose. The same goes for caffeine and even water. That does not mean it is inherently dangerous. That j

Replying to judasblue · Well, I am not sure that this study is the end all on this mood thing. There are other studies showing that moda helps with at least some elements of depression. http://www.ncbi.

Well modafinil increases extracellular dopamine in the same way methylphenidate does, by inhibiting the DAT. So there will be some mood elevation because of that. It will mask some of the symptoms, but not really lead to
