" Obama took a not-too-subtle swipe at his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, declaring: “I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.” There remains a role for government to give everybody a “fair shot,” Obama said — not just the wealthy."

So then education is a national issue in your idea until states can handle it themselves? So you're saying that states cannot really be left to their own devices with everything? :P

No, not exactly. I feel states need to rethink the way they run their education systems, with the federal government overseeing to make sure they are not going nuts! Then when one state starts creating an efficient system that works, other states can adopt. That way all our eggs are not in one basket. If a single state's education plan fails, it's not the whole country failing. We can setup a small federal fund to bail out states that fail, with the condition that all the state officials responsible are replaced. Basically run it more like a business who's goal is efficiency and results, not profit. But yes, I agree states cannot decide EVERYTHING for themselves. We need some regulations at the federal level. That does not mean the federal government runs it though.
