" Obama took a not-too-subtle swipe at his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, declaring: “I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.” There remains a role for government to give everybody a “fair shot,” Obama said — not just the wealthy."

Which is why I keep saying I want Canada to invest in science, technology, and education. But alas, apparently Harper is more interested in policing the internet and buying a bunch of F-35s for a war that doesn't exist. If they'd invest in shit like Thorium and Graphene, we'd get a head start on next generation energy technology and I could get a job in that sector. Win for everyone! But yeah, you guys have a problem with that in the US too. Such is life.
Also, what happens when you give full autonomy to a state in the Bible Belt that goes off the deep end and starts enforcing heavily theocratic education. How is education going to help you there? You now potentially have a crazy, fundamentalist, regressive state next to you that could eventually turn into your own version of Afghanistan or Pakistan :P

I really wish we were investing more into science too. I wish more people got excited about learning! People look at me like I'm crazy when they see me researching everything I can think of. They ask me why I care. I always ask, why not? It saddens me to think that people just don't care.
As far as education helping with the theocracy problem, it's simple. When people start getting better educations at younger ages, they stop relying on the crutch that is religion. Obviously at first we cannot give them free reign to make their own crazy fundamentalist state. However, after enough time and education, perhaps we won't have to worry about that anymore! As I always say, education can't hurt! The transition to the ideal system I have in my head is going to be a long gradual process, as is everything in life. Hopefully we don't kill each other before then!
