Original post in this thread

...is quite low :-( I mean the number is 0.5 % ! Now that is low

Just got my capsules of polygala extract from ND. Maybe sublingually would be more effective than swallowing the pill ? has anyone tried ?

Antoher hint I read (on examine): take licorice with it to increase absorption

Maybe Mister has an idea?

ps: polygala absorption- "p" missing in the title. I cannot find a way to edit the title..

You are referencing a single compound in polygala: 3,6'-disinapoylsucrose. It's also a single rat study making those claims.

That's just a single compound in polygala, though. There are a ton of other things in there. It's part of the story, but not the whole story. It would not be correct to say polygala has a bioavailability of 0.5%. A single compound in it was estimated to be that in a single rat study. That being said, we have been working on trying to elucidate everything in polygala to make a new standardized extract. The 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid and sodium caprate ideas have been on our radar, too. /u/Pretty-Chill tried eating a ton of black licorice with polygala, and he didn't notice an increase in effects. That either means it is not increasing DISS meaningfully, or the acute effects of polygala are not from DISS. It's probably more complex than just mixing them together. The sodium caprate thing might work, but that will require more testing.

As others have stated, many people use polygala sublingually with stronger effects. That's an option in the short term, till we can solve some of the more difficult scientific stuff. It's on our plate, but we have a lot going on. I can't promise it will be soon^® or anything. Some of our other projects have priority right now.

Is polygala a strong enough MAOI that it shouldn’t be combined with aniracetam?

No, it's not something you need to worry about. The main compound in polygala that has MAOI effects is called DISS (3,6'-disinapoyl sucrose). It has less than 0.5% bioavailability. This means it is likely not clinically
