To eat or not to eat, that is the question
Original post in this thread

Is there a quick and dirty way to tell if a noot / supplement is better to be taken with (or without) food?
Has ND thought about adding a little table for each supplement for eating / timing recommendations? or is there a legal issues with that?
Thanks for all you do ND!

I saw it on the sub somewhere that niacin helps the lions mane cross the blood brain barrier.
What about blackpepper helps the absorptions of nootropics? I’m starting to think those were all bullshit too.

Ahh, that's right. Paul Stamets same up with that niacin theory. He's an idiot when it comes to chemistry and pharmacology, though. I think the niacin thing is total bullshit, but I will speak to our PhD lion's mane researcher about it and see what he thinks.
Black pepper has piperine in it, which is a P-glycoprotein inhibitor. Some things do have improved bioavailability by inhibiting P-glycoprotein. Curcumin is the main one, but multiple others do as well. We are actually about to release enteric coated EGCG tablets with piperine in them, as piperine increases the bioavailability of multiple green tea catechins. So it just depends on the specific compound if piperine helps. It certainly doesn't help everything, but it does help some. In fact, you should be careful if you are on certain medications, as piperine can increase their plasma levels too much.
