I don't know about that. I would think that the natural environment and daily challenges of living would be extremely engaging in neurological terms, albeit in different ways. I'm sure a neolithic adult would be a slow learner when it comes to reading and writing, but I'm equally sure that I would be a moron at tracking game and killing a mammoth with a pointy stick.

Right, the structure of their brains would be drastically different. They would have more acute senses and abilities in certain aspects, but they would be far behind in many other aspects. But don't sell yourself short. I am sure if that was your only source of food, you would quickly learn how to track and kill a mammoth with a stick. On the same token, try teaching a human from that time period differential calculus, and see how that goes.
