Super rich hiding up to $32 trillion offshore, which amounts to roughly the US and Japanese GDP combined. Up to $280bn is lost in tax revenues. Some of the world's biggest banks are involved: HSBC, Citigroup, Bank of America, UBS, Credit Suisse

What they were answering

That is why I personally pay income, telecom, property, and sales taxes. Any portion of company money that goes to me, gets taxed as personal for me. That more than covers the services you are describing.

In that sense, we could argue that there should be no corporate taxes at all because we all pay income taxes, and that should be enough. If you want me to explain why that's a terrible idea, it would take much longer and I don't want to do it.

How are they con men?

My experience with them is they're a bunch of bureaucrats who will sell you on expensive solutions you don't need-- that they're good examples of where consulting goes wrong. Of course, YMMV.

The corporate profits go to the Caymans.

Well yes, and that's the point, isn't it? Now Accenture-- I don't remember, are they actually based out of the US or the UK? Either way, they get to base their company out of a nice, stable country with workable infrastructure, protected by armed forces. The government probably takes many actions to protect their interests around the world. In return, they claim to operate out of some other country, which enjoys worldwide stability due to these governments which you argue should not be getting tax revenue.

That is, "I want the benefits of operating in a stable society, but I'm not willing to pay the costs." My side is not an emotional argument, it's a logical one. If…

It is enough on the portion of the revenue that goes to individuals. The company's profits should still be taxed, since the company is a separate entity. However, the services the individuals get should not be used as a basis for why the company needs to pay too. That is just illogical. The company should pay for the services it receives from the government, not it's employees. They already pay for that! You can't just argue, "ohh, you don't think you should pay more taxes? That means you think there should be NO taxes" That is a silly way of discussing an issue with someone.

However, my point is that if you shopped around which state to base it in and then arbitrarily picked one with the lowest tax rate, while not actually operating in that state, then I think you've committed an immoral evasion of your civic responsibility.

So because I did not pick the state with the highest tax rate, I am immoral? I did not pick a state with $0 income tax either. I picked a state with an easy to implement corporate system, that's a nice place to visit as well. I just don't see your logic.

Boo hoo. I get less from the US government then others. That's not an excuse to shirk my responsibilities. I don't get to say, "Well I don't get food stamps, I didn't get financial aid when I went to college, and I've never had to make use of the court system. I've never had to call the police, and I don't have a child in the public schools. Therefore, I should simply not pay my taxes, since others made greater use of the government services."

I'm not complaining. I am merely giving you an example as to why your dinner logic is flawed. Both you and I pay more into the system than we get out of it. The difference is, I am not telling you that you should pay more. I am not making arbitrary judgements about your "fair" share. You are.

Think about all the popular concepts you know that "most people think." Are all of them right?

I agree, most people are idiots. However, when trying to get someone to agree with your viewpoint, it's advantageous to not marginalize them. Like it or not, the ones you are saying are immoral are the ones that have the money and the power. The easiest way for you to get closer to your goal is to have them see your point and agree to it. Marginalize and alienate them, and they will just close off more.

No, it has, and part of the problem here is that you don't recognize the position of privilege you were born into. You don't live in a society where gangs roam the streets. You don't live in a society with extreme inflation like Zimbabwe. You live in, and you operate your busines in, a nice, tame, civil society that fosters economic investment. Our tax structure is formulated to encourage investment and business spending. Our (relatively fair) justice system allows you to operate your business without dealing with rampant fraud. Our lenient bankruptcy laws and corporate protection allow you to start a business without too much fear of ruining yourself.

I recognize the privilege I was born into. I also realize that is not my government that did it, it's the American people themselves. It's also my family. My mother and father did everything they could to give me the best opportunities possible. They even went into massive debt doing it. I went to private school my whole life. This cost my family more than my college education did me, but they did it to give me a leg up. That was my family, not the government. My family still paid the same taxes for public school, even though I did not use it. Also, I actually have had to deal with fraud. I've lost tens of thousands of dollars in a single year alone due to immoral business people. The government did not do anything to help me with that. In fact, that same year they fined me for not having my tax money on time. This was when I was $60,000 in debt trying to start my business. So I had the "opportunity" to spend money I did not have to sue them? Awesome, thanks! I still paid all that was due, plus fines and interest to my gracious government. I more than pay for the "privilege" of operating in the United States. Ohh Zimbabwe is worse? No shit. That is hardly an argument that has any bearing. I do operate my business in other countries that are just as bad. I take all the risk for those operations. If my company fails, it fails. The government will do nothing to help me. Ohh, so there are lenient bankruptcy laws? I'll be sure to thank the US for that when I have lost everything. Thanks for making complete financial failure a little easier on me... Ohh, but your taxes are not subject to bankruptcy laws. So we'll make laws that make it easier for you to get out of paying other people, just not us. You know, your "fair" share and all.

You think you're the only person who creates things for this country, because you own a business? You think nobody has ever done anything for you? This is where you're showing your ignorance.

Nowhere did I say that. You are talking about business owners like they are taking advantage of some gracious system that was given to them. We are the system! We pay for the system! All of us! Workers, owners, investors all are what create this system. The government is there for us, not the other way around. Call me ignorant if you want, but it seems that shoe might fit someone else in this conversation better than me.

You completely missed my point. The US navy is irrelevant. If the US was going to strike Iran, their navy would be well out of striking range of Iran's defenses. Then submarine launched ballistic missiles would hit strat

The whole discussion about taxation and fairness is the problem. Look at the majority of comments on here. They are fuming and angry. An idea cannot be passed with anger, but must be brought forth with logic and reasonin
