Iran test-fires missiles, sinks target not far from US-led international fleet.

What they were answering

Toned_F · -9 points

a US led military strike on Iran would destroy every major offensive and defensive Iranian asset within days.

You are incredibly misinformed. I don't even know where to begin with this. I guess you should start reading anything at all about Iran's military. This will get you started I guess: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armed_Forces_of_the_Islamic_Republic_of_Iran

Do you really think the US would have their fleet within range of Iran's defenses if they were planning an attack?

YES. Because the Navy, and the people in charge of the Navy, do no understand that they have no place in modern combat anymore. And if they're out of range of Iran's missiles, they're combat ineffective.

Like it or not, the United States military is unrivaled at the moment.

You're kidding, right? How about the Taliban? They seem to be doing alright against the "world's most powerful military". Technically, on paper we have the "best military", but wars aren't fought on paper. They're fought in the real world where shit doesn't always work as advertised. I know enough about the US military to know that shit not working as advertised is par for the course, thanks to the military industrial complex. That's a problem that pretty much no other country has. So while we may spend more than the next 20 countries combined, we're spending it on shit that doesn't even work properly, or shit that's…

You completely missed my point. The US navy is irrelevant. If the US was going to strike Iran, their navy would be well out of striking range of Iran's defenses. Then submarine launched ballistic missiles would hit strategic defense sites and radar positions. Followed by airstrikes from the countless bases in the region. Then carrier based aircraft would breach Iran's airspace before any surface naval vessels would get close to striking distance. Do you really think the US military is stupid? Come on now...

Are you really comparing an insurgency of militia, to a full fledged war with a nation state? That's just silly.

I am well aware of Iran's military capabilities. That is why it's silly to even argue it. Iran would not stand a chance. Sadly, the more Iran postures with hardline actions, the more fuel certain groups in the US have to make a case for war. It would serve Iran best to stop fueling the fire.
