If I lived in Texas, I would never be able to affect anything if I had a different opinion. People also usually can't just leave the state on a whim. You have family, work, and friends. Also it's usually the state governments that pass oppressive legislation. The federal government didn't make same sex marriage illegal in North Carolina. The federal government didn't pass Jim Crow Laws. The federal government gives us education, student loans, grants, public transportation, environmental protection, social security, regulations for business, and the Civil Rights Act. The federal government has never oppressed me.

Yes, I understand. However, it is a lot easier to leave a state than it is to leave a country! Like you, I too want a national utopia where everyone's rights are upheld and freedom is protected. There are some things that state and local governments do better. Then there are rights issues that need to be national. The revenue stream and spending at a national level is what I am more arguing against.
