Ohh yeah, want to hear about that shit show? So we have found that NO LABS in the world can properly test maca. Eurofins is the only one that even offers it, and we had them send the data on their methods. It's GARBAGE chemistry. No reference standards. No validation. They are using an old Chinese customer sample as their standard, and not confirming that their numbers even mean anything. When we pressed them on it, they said: "Well this is really not a quantitative method. It's just a QC method..." So why the fuck would you even offer that to customers?!? People are selling maca after getting "passing" results from Eurofins, but the numbers are meaningless.
So what we have been doing the past two years is building our own methods and validating them with a partner lab. We finally got some validation data this past week, and we have good news and bad news. Good news is our chemistry works. Our methods are separating and quantifying the macamides and macaenes. The bad news is that out of all the samples we have gotten, none of them have meaningful concentrations. Most are not even detected. The highest sample we have so far came in at 0.086%. Yes, the decimal is correct. Not 8.6%... 0.086%! That's the highest amount we have found in any extract so far. This extract was being sold as a 1% extract. So it has over 11 times less than it claims... and this was the BEST ONE!!! So at least we have solved the lab side of things, and we finally have a working and validated method for testing it. It's just that all the maca on the market is crap. We are not giving up, though. Now that the hard part is solved, we can work with our partners to actually make a good extract. That extract just doesn't exist on the market yet.
