Moderators please clarify the rules on nootropic vendor recommendations

Original post in this thread

It has come to my attention that recently user posts are deleted for nootropic vendor recommendation. It is a reasonable policy when vendors are using astroturfing or spamming however I've been asked dozens of times in comments and in private about the vendor or brand of the product I reviewed. It is unacceptable and very damaging to this community that it is allowed to mention nootropicsdepot, newmind and science.bio as well as big brands like now, swanson and jarrows while it is prohibited to recommend pglchem. And while I neither can assure the quality of his products nor I recommend the use of his shop, he is synthesizing some interesting compounds . One such compound is of particular importance to me, given my personal experience with certain nootropic derivatives of it like ones sold by newmind. I've been posting for years what I hope is valuable content including some rare scientific sources like this one stating that pemoline is more anti amnesic than stimulants in the screenshot, or even prl-8-53 which is touted by this sub as the ultimate memory enhancer. Also moderators should state sort of conflict of interests in…

That's correct. I have never compensated /u/Majalisk in any way. We don't give him free product. We don't ask him to make favorable reviews. We don't even ask him to change his moderation style, even though sometimes it might be easier if I did have him do things a bit differently. However, I promised everyone I would avoid conflicts of interest when I started Ceretropic back in 2013, so that is what I have done ever since. If I were to dictate how he moderated, that would break my promise. I don't do that.

Ok, thanks, it's good to have that on the record.

Not sure about the rest though. I appreciate your passion, but I'm sure you can imagine what it looks like to have a business owner write an impassioned wall of text claiming that their experience and time in the game is beyond reproach, that they are rich and could retire any time, and that all criticism against them is the work of unscrupulous competitors.

It's great that you are active here, but I can't say that you come across as particularly transparent. To boil down what you said it's "trust me, everyone else are liars". I'm sure I don't have to tell you how that sounds.

I feel for you, but I'm not going to do an instant 180. Thanks for the reply though.

My post history is public. It spans almost a decade. Go back through my entire Reddit history if you want to. I have no issue with that. In fact, I welcome it! I think more people should do that with everyone on Reddit. It gives you a good insight into who the person is. I am an open book. Go back through the /r/Nootropics post history and see all I have done over the years. See the multiple of this exact conversation I have had many times before. This community was much much smaller when I became a mod. I helped to build this community and this industry into what it is today. Along the way, I have helped a LOT of people. I have a very passionate following because of that. My companies have a very passionate following. That's why you see people talk about us so much. The reason I stopped posting here as much is because my following got a bit too enthusiastic. I never wanted people to treat me like a nootropics god, which is what was happening. This was causing a lot of friction, and there were many more claims of shilling and unfairness. I have never once shilled, nor would I ever. I have this Reddit account and that is it. My employees all know that I will come down hard on them if I find them doing anything improper. These people posting were legitimate customers that were just very passionate about voicing it. However, it didn't stop the posts and comments claiming we were shilling and controlling the subreddit. So what did I do? I created /r/NootropicsDepot and moved over there. I decided to focus my efforts elsewhere to stop the claims of unfairness. I actually rarely even read posts on /r/Nootropics anymore. I wouldn't know who is talking about whom, or if we were getting good or bad press. I only really know when critical posts pop up because people text/Signal me about it. As you can imagine, I know a LOT of people in the community. Some of them I know in real life, too. They alert me when there is something I need to address. Other than that, I just stay on /r/NootropicsDepot and focus my efforts on my mission. This is why it is so comical to me when people make claims like this. I really have no idea what is going on anymore outside of my side of Reddit these days. Are people talking us up a lot? I guess I could go read some posts here to see, but I really have no idea.

Then shit like this happens. People are banned by the other moderators here for breaking the rules. Posts are either removed or filtered and manually approved by the other mods. Then I get roped in again. It must be MisterYouAreSoDumb doing it! The reasoning is all nonsensical, too. I must just want to stifle conversations about novel synthetic nootropics so people will buy more natural ones! Like that makes any sense. Does an advanced user looking at norbinaltorphimine, or J147, or cyclazodone, but then deciding to take rhodiola or L-theanine instead, make any sense to you? It's asinine. I created the advanced side of the nootropics industry with Ceretropic. Go back and search what we did back then. I was all about bringing out novel synthetic nootropics and peptides. I shut Ceretropic down because of legal and regulatory risk reasons, though. That doesn't mean I am not still the same person that loves reading about new nootropics and experimenting! I have no issues with any of it. Why would I want to stifle conversations into interesting things? Have at it! Just follow the subreddit rules so the other mods don't have to get involved.

That's not to say I think all of these new synthetics are safe. Far from it. Some of them are outright dangerous. I am a lot more acutely aware of the legal risks we face in the industry now, because I have had to deal with countless lawsuits in the background over the years. I have had some very discouraging meetings with lawyers that have frankly scared the shit out of me. The stakes are much higher than many here realize. Many people have gone to the hospital. Multiple people have died. I helped build the nootropics industry into what it is today, so I am more protective of it than most. I know some of these dangerous new RC synthetics could cause more regulatory and government intervention in the space. That would be good for nobody. I also know that all these companies are not doing proper lab testing or quality control. This is also bad for the community. In the past I was a lot more vocal about calling out individual bad actors in the space, but I kept getting attacked for it. Both my family and my team pleaded with me to stop, so I did. That doesn't mean the people in this industry started doing things right. It just means I got tired of being personally attacked for trying to help protect everyone, so I stepped back. That's the other ironic thing. In the past I would have been WAY more vocal about calling some of these compounds and vendors out. However, I have pretty much stepped back completely, yet I still get called out for censorship that I am not even a part of. Trust me, I could get much more into the weeds on all this. I'd go out and buy a bunch of these things and test it in our lab, then call out the vendors for the poor quality. I just know that will start the cycle up again, and I would not only be taking up a lot of my time and stress doing it, but the attacks on me would start again. Ain't nobody got time fo' that.

So yeah, I do write walls of texts a lot. You will see that is common for me if you go back through my history. I am just passionate about about nootropics, this community, and this industry. I don't expect you do to a complete 180 after a couple comments. Just have an open mind and look back through my history. Follow what I do for a while. Form your opinion of me on what I say and do, not what others try to convince you of. Again, if you ever have any questions or concerns, just write me. I will always try to respond.
