[META] Modafinil discussions should not be prohibited anymore. The hype around it has died down, and it is still one of the most effective and safest nootropics.

I am not familiar with the workload of moderation - how much difference is there between removing all the posts by default and approving case by case, and electing not to remove the posts that appear on a case by case?
Perhaps something like the quality bot on other subs that checks for length or sources as a hedge against low effort posts would be useful.

The workload. We might get one good modafinil post a month, but hundreds of bad ones. Take a look at /r/afinil, and see how many bad ones we would get every day; and that's already filtering out a lot.

Shit, that would moderate most of the posts lately. The quality of posts as whole lately has not been very high. Do you see a lot of well-sourced scientific discussion? Are we only applying this filter to modafinil posts, or all of them? Do we want to lock things down to be more like /r/science? The issue always comes up about censorship when discussion about deleting low-quality posts arises. The quality of the posts in this sub is directly related to the amount of effort placed by the subscribers here. These meta posts always get a lot of opinions, but nobody actually follows up the rhetoric with quality posts. People want to be spoon-fed good information by other people, not take the time to lead the discussions themselves. While everyone is waiting for other people to step up, nothing happens. Do you think if we decided to remove the modafinil filter today, anything would change? Do we really think that the quality posts will just start rolling in, when it's too difficult for them now to send one extra message to us to approve their post?
What do people want in this sub? I think that's a better place to start. Perhaps we need more filtering of kratom, tianeptine, and phenibut? It's easy to upvote a post like this, and move on with your day. It's a lot harder to actually try and work toward making the change you want to see in a sub.
