The types of dopaminergic damage they are seeing is hard to measure in humans. We can't just cut open the brains of people in a study.
Actually, these can be seen after an autopsy.
Then you also have to take into account who is funding the studies. Pharmaceutical companies would not want to fund studies that would show damage at therapeutic dosages, and other private studies are looking for the most significant measurable damage.
This is plausible. There are studies done, however, that show damage with abuse of the drug, which would undermine said pharmaceutical companies.
We really need a well-funded study looking at the long term effects of dopaminergic brain systems, in therapeutic amphetamine users with ADHD.
I concur.

They can be seen after autopsy. The issue is that you would need to get permission for that ahead of time, and control for other factors. That would be a serious challenge.

Those studies are not funded by the pharma companies, though. Also, they could just point to the fact that it was being abused. With profit as a factor, I highly doubt the pharma companies are going to fund studies that might show long-term damage. We would need a third party to fund it.
