Since it is uncontrolled in the U.S., it is being sold as a nootropic, but it sometimes fall under as TCA (tricyclic antidepressant) and as analgesic affecting the opioid receptor.

Hydrocodone is activated upon first pass while morphine is deactivated. You cannot compare the two doses. In clinical practice it is rare to see morphine dosed below 30mg. The 15mgIR tabs are almost never used. Morphine has poor kinetics whereas tianeptine has favorable kinetics. The binding affinitity is speculation on my part, but the kinetic difference is undeniable. Tianeptine, once in dissolution, is sufficiently acidic that it absorbs directly and completely from the stomach. Morphine's alkalinity means the majority is not absorbed until it reaches the duodenum which, depending on when the stomach last emptied is going to take ~20-40 minutes. Once absorbed, tianeptine avoids first pass metabolism whereas almost have of the oral morphine dose is deactivated. From here they head to the brain where morphine gets in, but only after a bit of resistance. The heptane chain, especially is decarboxylated will facilitate tianeptine's passive transport into the brain. Fatty chains, especially lacking polar end groups will facilitate passive bbb transport. It doesn't matter that it is a heptane chain; it could be octane, nonane, decane, whatever. The more fatty groups, the better the octanol/water coefficient. This applies to almost all compouns that pasively diffuse across the bbb. I don't have the refference available at the moment, but I do remember reading the the m5 metabolite…

I get the differences in pharmacodynamics. I just fail to see how it compares to a real opioid. I just took 25mg Tianeptine, and I feel almost zero opioid effects. I've taken oral morphine before, as well as codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, hydromorphone, kratom (7-Hydroxymitragynine), etc. They are not even in the same ballpark. If I took 25mg oral morphine, I would be laying on the couch right now doing nothing. There are people on here taking 650mg/day Tianeptine, and stopping cold turkey without issue. I just got a PM this morning from another person almost at that same dosage. If you took 650mg Morphine, what do you think would happen? What about 650mg Acetylfentanyl?

Where are the Tianeptine overdose deaths?
Here the FDA is giving reports of overdoses with 100mg oral Morphine. There is not a single report of an overdose of Tianeptine due to the opioid effects. I think people abusing Tianeptine are morons. However, I fail to see any evidence that it is more than a mild opioid at best.
