What hasn't worked for you

Original post in this thread

It feels like I've tried just about everything out there and find that very very few substances actually have any effect that I can definitively confirm to myself as being a direct action from whatever I ingest. I'd even be happier if I'd gotten some side effects at least there would be some sign of efficacy at least. What hasn't worked for you and what was the biggest letdown ?

DXM has been the most powerful way to reverse tolerance

I know others have used DXM for reducing tolerance, but this is the first time I've ever encountered such a claim made for DXM. I find this especially surprising when seen along side of similar claims made elsewhere for Memantine while being compared to other popular NMDA receptor antagonists.

But then again I find it somewhat shocking to see any advocacy of DXM here on this subreddit as its generally a place to discuss Smart Drugs or compounds that have cognitive enhancing properties, as it's relevant to the specified title r/Nootropics. I have heard medical professionals regard DXM as a drug that makes you stupid. I am also going to admit that I know that from first hand experience when I was in my reckless youth. However that affect was apparent from taking well beyond the dosages recommend for cough suppression.

TL:DR I would like to know what the effective dose is for the purpose of reversing tolerance. If the effective dose is appears to be relatively low relative to the amount suggested for its use as an antitusive, then I may consider revisiting DXM to evaluate both DXM ability to reverse tolerance and to see if a regular course of DXM could be tolerated.

Ahh yes, must be a specialist in the field...

DXM can be abused, like many other substances. That does not mean it does not have valid uses at therapeutic dosage levels. A 30-60mg dose is what I am referring to. Using a daily dose of 30-60mg will definitely reduce tolerance to things like stimulants and opioids. Again, DXO should be better, since it does not have the serotonergic effects the parent compound does.
