Empathogens

While not nootropics per se, empathogens can help us get access to a kind of information that we can use for making better decisions, I believe.
Commonly, MDMA and several popular hallucinogenic compounds increase empathy in humans - but with potentially unwanted effects.
Are we aware of any substances with a reduced risk of hallucinating, legal risks, and less toxicity? The recent comments on NSI-189 and hyper-emotionality make me wonder about empathy.

Thanks for the reply. Would you continue if not for the emotional side effects and at what dosage do you start to notice each effect?

No, probably not. I did not really notice much of a beneficial effect with it. It was just kind of lackluster for a month, then hyper-emotional. I was using 40mg twice per day.
