Nuance: CDP Choline vs Alpha GPC

Original post in this thread

It's easy to find clinical comparisons between CDP and Alpha GPC, but those are hard to relate to.

I've tried both and I can't tell if I'm getting different effects or if they're pretty much the same. But here's the thing: I don't know what to look for. I figure that longer-term users who have experimented with both may have some insight on that. ???

What they were answering

Hey, how did you know I was so dumb?!

Your analogy sounds good, but I'm afraid it's lost on me. I don't drink (can't...migraines), and my wine-connoisseur friends' wine-speak always sounds like they're describing a visit to a botanical garden on Saturn. But you're one of those who I had in mind when mentioning 'practiced brain.'

Re your assessment of CDP vs GPC: There is at least one more similar opinion expressed in this thread, and it was my own impression as well, albeit with limited experience so far.

Another interesting aspect: I've sometimes taken DMAE to try to counteract the burnt-out feeling from too many nights of little sleep. It seemed to trigger migraines sometimes. But in contrast, CDP seems to help to suppress migraines (!?). I haven't checked Alpha GPC enough yet to have an opinion about its own action. This is independent of nootropics, so it's not about noot-based choline depletion. I've usually taken Verapamil (Ca-channel blocker) as a daily preventive, but it puts me to sleep. Glad to find a possible alternative.

I'm told that DMAE is not an effective choline booster, so I don't know why it would help sleep-deprivation burn-out. (Is here a better alternative supplement for that?)

I've heard disparate opinions on phosphatidyl choline as a practical choline source. I love the taste of that stuff though. I don't know of any other choline boosters, so…

To be perfectly honest, I am not a wine person either. I am a beer man myself. I just brewed a citra cream ale, and am about to brew a Belgian Dubbel with orange peel and vanilla beans! I get what the wine people are talking about technically, I am just not that into it myself. I don't care what anyone says, beer has a much wider and varied taste palate than wine. However, the wine analogy worked better in this instance, due to the nuances of the tastes.

The DMAE thing is strange. I have never gotten that effect. It's true, it is not that effective of a choline booster compared to CDP or GPC. However, it can take the place of ACh in some processes. So I think that is why it proves to be more effective for some.

Phosphatidyl choline is pretty good. It is not going to be as effective as CDP or GCP, and will not give you the side benefits that the other do. However, it works for a lot of people as a choline source.
