Dude that holds a patent on testing for atherosclerosis conveniently finds statistically-significant findings using that same test IN VITRO that he developed. Dude also is a consultant for multiple pharma companies that, SURPRISE SURPRISE, sell a therapeutic drug that supposedly inhibits the production of TMA from choline... HMMMMM

Wang and Hazen report being named as co-inventors on pending and issued patents held by the Cleveland Clinic relating to cardiovascular diagnostics and therapeutics. Wang and Hazen report having received royalty payments for inventions or discoveries related to cardiovascular diagnostics or therapeutics from Cleveland Heart Lab, a fully owned subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics, and Procter & Gamble. Hazen is a paid consultant for Procter & Gamble, Zehna Therapeutics, and has received research funds from Proctor & Gamble, Zehna Therapeutics, Pfizer Inc., and Roche Diagnostics.

So a brand new pharmaceutical company formed less than 3 years ago is having their "paid consultant" write research studies conveniently showing atherosclerosis risks from common choline supplements. These findings are NOT clinical in humans. They are in vitro studies showing possible mechanisms. They took human fecal samples to find specific probiotic strains, then used those to test for the production of TMAO in vitro. They certainly make it sound like their findings support the idea they discovered that Alpha-GPC promotes atherosclerosis in humans, though... don't they?

Consulting and/or Speaking. Dr. Hazen receives fees of $5,000 or more per year as a paid consultant, speaker or member of an advisory committee for the following companies:
Zehna Therapeutics, LLC
Royalty Payments. Dr. Hazen receives or has the right to receive royalty payments for inventions or discoveries commercialized through the companies shown below:
Cleveland HeartLab, Inc. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics, Incorporated)
Zehna Therapeutics, LLC
Right to Future Distribution of Cleveland Clinic Financial Interest. Dr. Hazen may receive future financial benefits from the Cleveland Clinic for inventions or discoveries commercialized through the companies shown below:
Zehna Therapeutics, LLC

So not just a paid consultant. He has other financial ties to the company, like royalties and future financial benefits for inventions or discoveries... maybe like "small molecule therapeutics for the potential treatment of heart failure, by inhibiting the production of TMAO from choline sources..." the very thing this study drops on us as a risk?!? Now I am not saying their data is fraudulent or wrong. I need to dig more into the science to have a solid opinion of that. However, if I was a pharma company developing a drug to treat a very specific mechanism, this is how I would go about making the public think this was a risk in humans...
