A Montana man is facing life in federal prison for growing marijuana in compliance with Montana's medical marijuana law --"While Jerry Sandusky got a 30-year minimum sentence for raping young boys, Mr. Williams is looking at a mandatory minimum of more than 80 years for marijuana . . ."

A speeding infraction is drastically different from a Federal level drug trafficking charge.
Generally speaking, if it's something you'd get locked up for you'll get locked up for a lot more if you have a firearm on you while doing so. Laws like this have been on the books for over half a century, this isn't something new. Also, I can assure you that it's not something anyone is seriously fighting.
This guy seriously fucked up by owning firearms while growing. Every grower will state that plainly. You never commit federal or felony crimes with a gun on you, unless you like prison walls more than others.

I know it's different, but I am curious as to where the line is drawn legally. What if I hit someone while speeding? What if I commit mail fraud? I am just shocked that the presence of a firearm, without it's use or connection to the crime, can be grounds for another charge.
