What would be your perceptible benefits of Poria? I feel like it’s slightly cholinergic but I can’t really place anything else. I grabbed all the mushrooms at one point and I feel like chaga is another sleeper in that regard. I haven’t played around with Poria that much though and it’s difficult to even find anyone commenting on it’s individual effects.

Poria, especially when mixed with lion's mane, has a really nice mood boosting effect. Poria contains contains unique lanostane and seco-lanostane terpenes that are not found in other botanicals. These lanostane terpenes seem to have the ability to act on the Rap1 pathway.

PC contains unique compounds, including lanostane and seco-lanostane terpenes. Terpenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons produced from natural products and are known to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects (41). Terpenes are also included in other herbal medicines, and because they have a different scaffold structure than lanostane-based terpenes, they interact with different proteins. This approach is the basis for explaining the physiological activity of PC compared to that of other medicinal herbs. For example, triterpenes with five rings, such as oleanolic acid and hederagenin, can act on pathways involving cholinergic synapses, type 2 diabetes, and GnRH secretion (12). In comparison, lanostane triterpenes most likely acts on the Rap1 signaling pathway, nicotine addiction, neuroactive ligand-receptor, and cocaine addiction pathways (Figure 3A). The Rap1 signaling pathway is associated with the blood-brain barrier (42), and all other pathways are related to neuropsychiatric disorders. In addition, interleukin-21 derived from the biological process of lanostane triterpenes, is already well known to be associated with AD (43) (Figure 3B). Therefore, the fact that PC is effective against mental illnesses is a unique characteristic of PC. Because PC has a high possibility of pharmacological MOA, which animal and plant herbal medicines cannot, research on PC will become more important in the future.
PC in that study stands for Poria Cocos. That's how it is referred in a lot of Asian research. The Latin name is Wolfiporia extensa, but is sometimes named Wolfiporia cocos (or shortened to Poria cocos), or called Matsuhodo in Japanese. I think it is a really cool mushroom with a lot of unique benefits that gets overlooked by the more hyped mushrooms.
