So I have been considering doing a mushroom blend for a while, but also considering drink mixes. Sometimes people don't want to take capsules or pills, especially people new to supplements. They consider them like medications. However, drinks are different. I wanted to make a really high quality mushroom drink that would be approachable for the average person, but also be effective and not taste like shit. I saw a bunch on the market, and decided to do some market research. I bought all the most popular mushroom matchas and coffees out there, and tried them. To my surprise, they are all complete dogshit! Like seriously, I was dumbfounded! They all taste shitty, which is stupid because they all don't have full doses of real mushrooms. Some have 200mg of mycelium on grain BS. Others don't even say how much they have in them, and they taste like there is very little. You'd figure that if you were going to make a bullshit mushroom drink without full doses of actual mushrooms, you'd try to make it at least taste good. NOPE! One of them, Everyday Dose, is literally one of the most disgusting things I have ever drank! It seriously tastes like really shitty instant coffee that has been left out to oxidize, then had a cat piss on it. No joke. I am not exaggerating. I read all the good reviews and feel like I am taking crazy pills!!! I had a bunch of people on my team try it, and they all agreed. I know most reviews online are fake, but I really don't get it. So after trying what was available, I knew I wanted to make an option that had a novel mix of good mushroom. Mushroom Magic Matcha was the one we decided to start with. I am really happy with how it turned out. I am drinking it right now!
The other thing we wanted was convenience. I was just in Las Vegas for the Supply Side West expo. As anyone who has been to Vegas knows, you don't get a coffee machine in your room. That city is designed to extract as much money as possible from you, so you have to go downstairs to Starbucks to get a coffee or matcha. Their shit sucks anyway, so I brought along my jar of Mushroom Magic Matcha. Then I could just heat up water in the room and mix it for a caffeinated functional drink. It's nice to have an alternative with me that I could just mix wherever I go... and yes, this is our first product with an actual scoop in it! LOL. We specifically sized the scoop for the dose, and this is a larger dose, so we have finally come over to the dark side and given a scoop in the jar. This is also just the start of the drinks we are making. The next one will be a Mushroom Magic Matcha latte. This will be for people that was something a little creamier and sweeter. Of course you can take the one we just released and add your own milk and sweetener of your choice, but some people want a convenient one that is already pre-mixed. Then we will also be releasing a Mushroom Magic Coffee. That's one I am super excited about, because we have completely rethought what people would want in a functional mushroom coffee. Listen, I guess I would consider myself a coffee snob. Life is too short to drink shitty coffee, so we are developing a coffee replacement that will give the effects and taste people want, but doesn't use shitty instant coffee like everyone else does. Moreover, we are going to hit dopamine a little harder with our formula, so it should be a really cool drink once we release it. I am hoping to get the matcha latte and coffee ones out in the next few months. Of course we are going to be releasing other drink mixes, too. Yes, that includes an electrolyte blend... you animals!
Now for the kanna. As many people here know, people have been wanting us to release our own kanna for many years. We sold Zembrin years ago, but decided to drop it because it was a pain to work with, and I didn't think the effects justified the cost. Some people liked it, but I knew we could do better on our own. I didn't think it would take 7 years, but as with everything else, shit takes way longer than you plan. Plus, this is from Africa. Africa is a PAIN IN THE ASS to work with! This is why it was so hilarious to me when Huberman went on Joe Rogan and talked about Fadogia agrestis, then two days later everyone was offering a "totally real" Fadogia product. You can't get shit out of Africa in 12 months, much less two days. So we have been working to create botanical reference materials for it with some of our partners, and actually have one now. We used that to test the products on the market, and I will give you a guess what the results were... Yep, even the big M brand. Totally fake. Fucking scam industry. Anyway, that's a different African plant, but it's the same story as kanna. A lot of the kanna on the market is fake shit from China. They are selling a completely different plant from the Mesembryanthemum genus. 100% of the kanna coming out of China is fake. It's so much cheaper than real kanna, so it has spread all over the market. You have to get real kanna from South Africa, or a couple other countries close to it. It's also a slow growing succulent that takes multiple years to grow before you can harvest. Also, you need to control the cultivar and growing conditions in a specific way to have it make more of the alkaloids. You can only harvest over a couple months in the winter as well. Then you get into the extraction. The expertise and scientific knowledge surrounding it is lacking, and isolated to a few select groups of people in South Africa. We were working with one group of people for a few years, and they kept promising to get us samples based on our specifications, but then ghosting us. It was always something, and they kept moving the goalposts. TIA, I guess. We had to drop them and find new partners to work with. Luckily we have some good partners now, and we were able to finally make an extract /u/Pretty-Chill and I really liked. What we found is that many of the good kannas on the market are very mesembrine heavy, or mesembrenone-heavy in Zembrin's case. However, where the magic really happened for us was in the extracts that were more full spectrum. People can often criticize us for going too potent and standardized. They say sometimes we go too far. This time we wanted to make a potent extract, but ensure we were getting the full spectrum of alkaloids to experience the full effects kanna can offer.
You can see mesembrine is the highest peak, but we have a lot of the other peaks in there as well. The interesting thing about this extract is that it has almost no mesembrenone. It's in the delta-7 mesembrenone form, which seems to feel different to us. I think the effects are really cool. It's stimulating, but smooth and mood boosting at the same time. We tried some other extracts that were more stimulating, but they became edgy and one-sided. We didn't want to just make another one-sided product. We wanted a nice balanced effect, and I think we really achieved it. However, that not the end of the story. We are working with our partners to create another kanna extract that will be even more potent and tailored to the pushy stimulation that some people are looking for. This one is just going to be the best overall kanna for most people, who want that stimulating and mood boosting effect without the edginess. I hope everyone likes it!
