One of the marketing dudes I know says that the first & second abandoned cart emails are to recover a cart (within 24hrs), and the third and after (days or even weeks later) are to 'dog ear' your company/product in their inbox. To keep a degree of awareness.
Down the line, the person might be like 'wtf was the name of that company again? Oh yeah! They sent me an email last week!" and they use that as the grounding.
Dunno how true it is, but sounds like it might make sense?
But ya, 20 emails sounds over the top. Rosetta stone has been doing that to me with their UNLIMITED LANGUAGES FOREVER deal. Literally 2 emails a day since I had it in my cart, which was 2 months ago... so 120 emails O\_\_\_O

Yeah, that makes sense. A lot of marketing for big brands on TV is not about selling the product. It's about brand recognition. If you see Pepsi commercials all the time, you might be more likely to choose that if and when you are in a store looking for soda. They can do that because they have the margins and funding to be able to throw money at campaigns that might not convert for a long time. Smaller brands like us have to be more selective where we spend our budget. You'll likely see our display ads around on sites. That has a similar effect. It's not meant to get people to buy products, as it really sucks for that. What it does do is keep our branding in front of people. Then if they later Google for a rhodiola supplement, and see our shopping ad, they will be more likely to click on it because they recognize the brand itself.
