It all sounds good but if I was a vendor I would never send my stuff to a competing vendor's laboratory for testing, because there is and always will be a conflict of interest, ISO certified or not. How can we know for sure the reported results are bona fide if there is a conflict of interest ? You'd have to send it to another lab to be sure.
A 3rd party lab doesn't fundamentally care what the results are.
That is ideal if you want true objectivity I think, i.p. if that lab is ISO 17025

You can't trust most labs for shit. That's the honest truth. We have had so many bad results from very well-known labs. They don't care about the results. They are results factories. They profit off throughput. The faster they can run samples and get results out, the more money they make. The small labs that try to change the industry eventually just get bought out by the big guys anyway. The lab industry consolidates constantly. You are so concerned with conflict of interest, when the real enemy is apathy. Not caring about what the results say is a much bigger enemy to truth than willful fraud. Hanlon's razor. Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by ignorance. When you only care about pumping through your samples quickly, you inevitably miss things. There are some labs that our competitors use that I would NEVER send samples to again, due to past experience. It doesn't hurt us to have them continue using those labs. It only hurts them and their customers.
Moreover, why would I commit fraud and risk ruining my reputation, and the reputation of my lab, by putting out fake results for a competitor? It makes zero sense. As you said, you could just send the same sample to another lab to verify if the results were fraudulent. If we just gave competitors fake results, you could find that out right away. Who in their right mind would risk that? For what? What would we get from that? We would get nothing from it, other than risk of a fraud lawsuit and a ruining of our reputation; not to mention revocation of our ISO certification. Only an idiot would do that.
We have already done testing for multiple of our competitors through Omnient, and will continue to do so for many more. Anyone that has worked in this industry knows the value of a good lab that is passionate about the validity of the results above all else. I care about ensuring that the things that people are putting into their bodies are tested to the highest level possible. Everyone in my lab cares about the scientific precision and validity of the results they put out, regardless of who the results are for.
