but irt the dopamine, wouldn't that mean caffine is harmful over a long period as well?

Well there seems to be a line that needs to be crossed in the amount of dopamine released that causes the issue. This is why most of the damage seen is dose-dependent. You don't see the damage in lower doses of amphetamine, and caffeine doesn't seem to reach the levels required to cause the damage. Also, while the A2 receptor can cause a release of dopamine in the striatum, the A1 receptor actually acts in an inhibitory fashion. So caffeine seems to modulate both ways.
