It seems to be almost inactive even at double and triple the amount, despite reading otherwise. What would be the free acid dose equivalent to 20mg of sodium?

I have not personally tried it yet. However, based on the solubility tests, you would want a high pH environment in the GI tract. So taking it on an empty stomach, perhaps with some Tums, would make it absorb better. Dos

Well you are not the only person to have reported that. It seems there is some variability in absorption in certain people. Have you tried the sulfate salt to compare? I wonder if you would not react to that one either.

Yep, that is common too. Some people just respond better to the sodium. It probably has to do with GI differences between people.
