Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitors and Bedtime

Original post in this thread

[deleted] · 2 points

I've been on Hup-A 120mcg ONLY at night - this was actually because I bought Geranamine (an Ach-ase inhibitor as well) a few years ago and noticed its expiration date going out, so I took the rest of it, then switched over to the better Hup-A for nighttime.

My memory has improved. I'm on day 4 and my sleep is fine (as can be) and I guess at night acetylcholinesterase can really affect memory consolidation with me.

I'd advise at least trying it; it is working for me very well.

On this sub I read multiple times that one should also refrain from racetams before bedtime. Do you think this is an accurate advice? I have never seen any evidence that racetams (except nefiracetam, I thought) raise acetylcholine levels. I take noopept, and going through the examine.com page seems to indicate it has an acetylcholine sensitizing effect, which seems like it would be a less likely to exhibit problems, because it doesn't straight up raise acetylcholine.

It concerned me since noopept's (or the more active metabolite's) half life is not known. Who knows, maybe it has a half life of 15 hours and is still very active when I'm sleeping.

Both Vincamine and Piracetam in doses of 1 and 300 mg/kg p.o., respectively, enhance absolute and relative amounts of paradoxical sleep (PS). Smaller doses have a lesser or no effect on PS. Larger doses again have little effect or else, in the first few hours after application, reduce PS and total amount of sleep. Both drugs have little effect on slow wave and total sleep. Piracetam, but not Vincamine, reduces the prominent frequency of the theta band in hippocampus during PS. The PS-enhancing effect of the two geriatric drugs may be related to their memory-improving influence.

So piracetam enhances REM sleep and has no effect on slow wave or total sleep. This means that it most likely enhances sleep without adverse effects. This is why many people feel rested, but are able to remember their dreams more vividly. Anecdotes are going to vary by person, though.

You don't account for dosage of capsules. So the price values of those are all inaccurate. Take noopept for example. We are by far the cheapest per mg in capsules. We just sell it in 30mg and 10mg amounts. Also, multiple

1) It's hard to say. Nefiracetam might be good, as that binds to the glycine site of the NMDAR. However, I am not convinced of its safety. You can be safe and start with the tried and true piracetam, and go from there.

Racetams are not pointless without choline. There are a lot of other actions they have apart from facilitating ACh transmission. You also cannot bundle all the racetams together like that. Many of them have very differe
