Why isn't DXM a more popular nootropic?

Not in high doses, mind you, but I get a very "head-spacey clarity" and extreme mental alertness from doses 100-200mg. (Anything higher than 400 I've found dissociative)

Usually reserve it for times of high mental stress to avoid building up a tolerance.

I have made no implication that Adderal is healthy. I'm not arguing that people should take amphetamines but they are considered by many to be nootropics as they do enhance cognition.

Words can and do diverge from there roots. Nice used to mean foolish. artificial used to mean a product of skill.

In academia strict definitions are necessary and should be adhered to but as far as the common lexicon is concerned nootropics are smart drugs with no caveats.

Then what should I call the substances that nootropics were meant to be? If people insist on stealing the term and applying it to all substances that affect cognition at all costs, what do we call the safe and sustainable ones? By your terms, cocaine is a nootropic. If we start blurring the lines, where do we stop? What if a substance makes you the smartest person for 2 months, then your brain is useless due to early onset Parkinson's? What if it takes 2 years? What about 20 years? Once we blur the lines, who decides where they end up?
