Is it true that berberine messes with the effects of a bunch of pharmaceuticals? Wanted to give berbelean a try but didn’t think it’d be worth it if so

Berberine inhibits three CYP450 enzymes: CYP2D6, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4. If the drug you are taking is also metabolized by those, berberine can affect your blood concentrations. CYP3A4 is the really crucial one, as 50% of drugs are metabolized by that enzyme. This means that taking berberine can increase the plasma levels of drugs metabolized by those enzymes. This means you might have to adjust your dosage. Always speak to your doctor about things like that.
