Uh-oh, Nootropics Depot is threatening to sue ConsumerLab.
ConsumerLab testing discovered that Nootropics Depot Shoden Ashwagandha doesn’t have the claimed amount of Withanolides in it. ConsumerLab isn’t backing down. Stay tuned…

You ran that batch through the lab and found that it contained 72mg instead of the 42mg advertised?
Don't get me wrong, I like the extra.
But to me, this indicates that there really is something wrong with QC procedures. That's 71% greater than the label claim. Uhhhh what?

It's a not LESS than spec. Shoden is not less than 35% total withanolides. Now USP considers withaferin-A to be a withanolide, but Ixoreal (the people that make KSM-66) think it shouldn't be considered one, so they keep it low. We are kind of in the middle. I think it has benefits, but more for things like cancer than the calming effects most people associate with ashwagandha, so I want a good amount of the other withanolides to give people that calming effect. This means we look at both the total withanolides including withaferin-A in there, and also when removing it from the total. We also calculate the total via the 8 that USP looks at, just for reference. The raw batch that went into these capsules came out at 55% total withanolides if you include withanferin-A. I think it was around 48% if you remove withaferin-A from the equation. I can have my lab get me the exact number tomorrow. This is still over the 35% spec when removing withaferin-A from the equation. The 72mg I stated above (71.5mg actually) is including the withaferin-A. Since the raw batch that went into that lot was 55%, that means each capsule has 130mg Shoden in it. That's an 8% overage, right around where we formulate to account for manufacturing tolerance. Our process is spot on, as it always is. Shoden is a patented product made by Arjuna. They control the spec and dose via a TMLA. We just verify it, and then manufacture it into finished capsules.
