Nootropics Depot Ashwagandha

Original post in this thread

I ordered the Ashwagandha Extract Powder 4-5% Withanolides from Nootropics Depot without reading the reviews on the site. Now I see some reviews saying that the taste is "off" and "synthetic" compared to their experiences with other ashwagandha. Do I have something to be worried about?

I approved those reviews, but there is nothing wrong with our ashwagandha. We do extensive testing of every batch, and I even pulled a jar to smell/taste when they posted those reviews. There is literally nothing wrong with it. It smells and tastes like ashwagandha. People say crazy shit all the time. One guy said that he thought we cut our products with strychnine and baby laxative. We get some crazy theories from people. I have the same jar on my desk from when those reviews were posted, and I just smelled it again. It's a little more bittersweet than KSM-66, but that's about it. It's a whole plant extract, rather than just a root extract like KSM-66, so that could account for the difference. Sensoril is totally different than both of them, and is much darker and more bitter. Plant extracts vary a lot by growing conditions, cultivars, extraction methods, and plant parts used. Even batch-to-batch of patented extracts like KSM-66 can vary. It's just the nature of plants.

We actually did some blinded back-to-back testing of all 3 ashwagandha extracts we sell, and the consensus from most of the employees that participated was that our regular 4-5% extract was the favorite. This was a blinded test over a week period. It wasn't placebo controlled or anything, but it was surprising that most liked the standard extract.

Anyway, you have nothing to worry about. We don't incentivize reviews. So we often only get the polarizing ones. This is especially true on some of the less exotic products we sell.

KSM-66 and Sensoril Ashwagandha brands are extremely dishonest.

Replying to Megatron_McLargeHuge · NootropicsDepot sells both and supposedly has the most reliable lab testing of any consumer vendor. Have you looked at their versions?

We removed the withanolide claims years ago from those two products, because we found this out in our lab testing. Both Natreon and Ixoreal were not happy with us about it, but we called them out multiple times at Supply
