Kind of disappointed that the C is a "proprietary blend"

u/MisterYouAreSoDumb · ND Owner

It's not really a proprietary blend. It's just that to comply with FDA labeling requirements, it gets complicated if you try to list all forms separately. This was a cleaner way to do it, while complying with all the label rules. It can get complex if you follow the absolute letter of the regulations.

This is the mixture:

* Ascorbyl Palmitate: 200mg
* Calcium Ascorbate: 175mg
* Sodium Ascorbate: 155mg
* Magnesium Ascorbate: 100mg
* Potassium Ascorbate: 100mg

Obviously those are target numbers. We always formulate higher, to ensure we are at or above label claims in all scenarios. The reason why you might not think it is complex, but very much is, is the fact that we have spec ranges for the ascorbic acid and magnesium, sodium, calcium, and potassium numbers. We also have spec ranges for water content in each raw material, and not every one is the same. We also have assay spec differences. Maybe one is set for 98%, while another 99%. What we do in our formulation is take the absolute minimum numbers that a raw material could be, while still being in spec, and formulate for that. This means we always account for the lower end of the raw material spec, plus we account for the lower end of the manufacturing tolerance. This ensures that every single capsule of every single bottle in every single batch will ALWAYS have what we claim or higher. Literally nobody else does this. It's really complex. So the label is not an attempt to hide a "proprietary" formulation, which is why I have no issue telling you what the mixture is.

petition for ND to change the filler 'maltodextrin' to something else

We almost never use maltodextrin in our formulations. We purposely avoid it, not because of compelling science, but because it is just easier to agree and move on than fight that fight. However, what most consumers don't
